History:
Totara Glades is the result of a visionary initiative to re-establish native bush on an area of unique environmental significance. The area was first settled in the 1300s by islanders arriving from Hawaiki who found the area to be a plentiful provider of food and water offering an easy climate in which to live. At that time, Totara Glades was Totara and Kahikatea forest and remained so until, in the 1830s, the early European settlers arrived and began harvesting the bush for dwellings and other industrious purposes. When the previous owners acquired the farmstead, they set about restoring wetland and bush as well as planning for a subdivision of the farmland into lifestyle blocks so that others could come and enjoy the experience of living in such a unique location. The current owners took over early in 2013 and they set about further planting, perfecting the environmental outcomes and sensitively planning the subdivision layout. They also undertook the works necessary to create the roading and services that have created the sections that are now available for sale to the public. With fifty hectares of covenanted bush and wetland extending into Department of Conservation protected reserve, plus intensive pest control and protective covenants, Totara Glades has truly invested in an environmental outcome that will benefit generations to come. Native birds and other species are flourishing as the bush regenerates.

Today Totara Glades offers a place to live and enjoy the space and environment that the area has to offer - all within your own slice of that land.
