The Athena group is the largest and longest operating olive processor in Canterbury. The Athena brand is well known throughout New Zealand as one of the highest quality extra virgin olive oils and has enjoyed considerable local and national media exposure. The use of a traditional Tuscan tower press, for cold processing, gives the Athena group a point of difference and makes the brand unique within the New Zealand Olive industry and the activities can be separated into the three main areas of growing, processing olive oil and associated products, and sales & marketing.

The Athena Group manages its own 3000 tree olive grove, and provides pruning, spraying and harvesting services to other growers, as well as a grove management consultancy service.

Over the past five years, Athena has purchased or processed a significant proportion of Canterbury's olive production and also sourced from Marlborough. Good relationships exist with key growers. Athena premium quality extra virgin olive oil is sold through the on-site retail outlet and distributed throughout New Zealand to other retailers on a wholesale basis. Small quantities have been exported.

The retail outlets sell, in addition to extra virgin olive oil, Athena's other products including -
Lemon infused olive oil,
Pickled and marinated olives,
Lavender infused and natural olive oil soap,
Massage oils and gift packs available in a range of packaging options.

The retail outlet stocks a range of other olive related products and local gourmet produce.

The Mill House is open seven days a week and offers tours and tastings, including a DVD presentation, to both independent travellers and large pre-booked groups.
