Riverdale Farm is a 307 hectare dairy unit near Cambridge with an inbuilt drystock unit. The tracks are very good with many of them having had a major upgrade to facilitate access to some pylons on the property. Around 500 cows are milked and they are available to be purchased. Approximately 100 R2, 100 R1 and 90 carry over cows are farmed on through the year with around 180 cows wintered off.
Adjacent to the dairy shed are two 200 tonne concrete bunkers. Around 400 tonne of maize is put into the system along with 120 bales of hay and 80 tonne of silage.
The effluent system is holding tanks then pumped via 90mm lines with hydrants strategically placed around the farm.
The soil types are mainly free draining Horotiu and Tirau sandy loams and Tirau ash.
The pastures are generally healthy and strong with under sowing being part of the annual pasture renovation regime aligned with a history of good fertiliser applications according to recommendations.
The water system has been upgraded with two new 5hp submersible pumps draining from 30m to four manacons beside the dairy where it is pumped to header tanks to allow gravity or pressure reticulation around the property. The mainline of 60mm PVC goes to the top tank and 50mm to the second tanks and 25mm laterals.
There is a range of implement and calf rearing facilities along with a sand mine to provide excellent race material as a base.
There are three dwellings - the main home is of brick with four bedrooms, large lounge and outside room with fire, double garage, swimming pool, and in a nice elevated and private setting. This house has had a recent upgrade. The second dwelling has three bedrooms, open plan living, lounge with wood burner and separate laundry and garage. The home is in good condition. The third dwelling has three bedrooms, lounge with wood burner and is in good condition with a detached garage.
